The Gyeongsang National University Museum was installed in 1983 and inaugurated in 1984 to research the prehistoric and ancient culture of the Western Gyeongsangnam-do and to educate the public about the research.

Ever since its opening, the museum has been discovering and researching prehistoric and ancient relics of the Western Gyeongsangnam-do. The museum presently has on display 7,679 relics including Yongbongmunhwandu Long Sword, Horse Helmet and 20 others from the Ancient Tombs in Okjeon, Hapcheon. The focus has been on displaying these relics, including earthenware and metalware of the ancient Gaya Tombs, shedding new light on the splendid culture and history of the Gaya Dynasty known as the mystery kingdom.
