道銑国師が879年(新羅憲康王5年)にこの寺を建造した。彼は南江周辺から青鶴が飛んで来たのを見て瑞気が充満しているのを感じ、ここを寺院の場所に定めたと伝えられている。

慶南最古の建造物である大雄殿は、平屋八作屋根瓦家屋である。多包系系統に属しており、正面3間、側面2間で支柱を立てて補強している。
