It was renamed the ancient capital of Goryeong Gaya in the Gaya period, the Geoyeolseong of Baekje in the Three Kingdoms period, and Geoyeolju, Cheongju, and Gangju in the Unified Silla period,
It was first renamed Jinju in the 23rd year of King Taejo (940) of Goryeo, and in the 2nd year of King Seongjong (983), it became Jinju Tree, one of the 12 trees in the country.
In the 33rd year of King Gojong's reign (1896), Jinju became a part of Gyeongsangnam-do
