在1592年(壬辰年)第一次晋州城战斗中，以晋州牧使金时敏为首的3800多个民、官、兵击退了二万多个倭寇, 经过六天的激烈战斗,才取得了晋州城大捷的胜利。在1593年(癸巳年)第二次晋州城战斗中, 倡义使金千镒、庆尚右道兵马节度使崔庆会、忠清道兵马节度使黄进等三位将领率领七万多个民、官、兵, 与十二万多个倭寇隔江对峙, 经过十一天的激烈战斗, 可惜七万多个民、官、兵生死与共, 全部殉难。为了颂扬两次战斗中殉难的忠灵, 1987年建造了壬辰大捷癸巳殉义祭坛。
