The Guksa(the highest ranking monk), Doseon built this temple in 879 (in the 5th year of the King Heongang, Silla Period). He received inspiration to build a temple at this site as he saw a blue crane flying from the Namgang riverside and noticed that the area had an abundance of certain auspicious signs.

Daeungjeon Hall, the oldest building in Gyeongnam Province, is a one-storied and tile-roofed house(Paljakjip style). Its style follows 'the profuse bracket system'. The hall was reinforced with three arched supports at the front and two arched supports on the side.
